How We Work

Build a church that supports
lifelong discipleship.

7Mile helps churches develop the leaders, culture, systems, and programming that support formation in Christ. We begin with leadership assessment and training alongside organizational and systems assessment. Together, these findings shape a development pathway for your church.

01

Prepare the people who lead

Leadership Assessment
and Training

Leaders shape the conditions in which people grow. We assess how your leaders understand themselves, exercise authority, respond to uncertainty, and carry responsibility—and how these patterns shape the people they lead.

Assessment and training begin together. Through individual and team reflection, feedback, and practical learning, leaders examine their assumptions and develop practices for listening, discernment, meaningful challenge, and sustained support. Training connects adult development with the theological purpose of discipleship and the real situations your leaders face.

What you take forward

Individual feedback, leadership-team development priorities, and a formation plan that guides continued training and practice.

02

Understand the life of the church

Organizational and
Systems Assessment

Your church forms people through its whole life. We examine how culture, structures, relationships, and recurring practices shape the experience of belonging, learning, serving, and taking responsibility.

We bring leadership and congregant perspectives together with a review of ministry practices, governance, roles, communication, and programming. This reveals where the church’s stated purpose is reflected in everyday life and where its systems create obstacles to discipleship. We identify strengths to build on and the changes that need attention.

What you take forward

A clear picture of your church’s formational environment, its strengths and constraints, and priorities for cultural and organizational change.

03

Turn understanding into a pathway

Discipleship Culture and
Programming Design

The leadership and systems findings come together in a development pathway for your church. We connect the growth your leaders need with the culture, relationships, spiritual disciplines, and programming that support people’s formation in Christ.

We design the framework and the practices that give it expression: leader formation, mentoring, small groups, reflection, service, and connections between worship and everyday life. The work also addresses how questions are received, responsibility is shared, and people are supported through challenge. Each design decision responds to what we have learned about your church.

What you take forward

A discipleship framework, a written development pathway, priorities for culture change, program designs, and an implementation plan.

04

Put the framework into practice

Implementation and
Ongoing Formation

We work alongside your leaders as they put the pathway into practice. Leadership training continues as new practices, responsibilities, and ways of working become part of the church’s shared life.

We prepare the people leading the work, support initial implementation, and establish regular reflection and review. Leaders learn from participant experience, work through obstacles, and refine the approach. Continued coaching and feedback connect the framework to everyday decisions and help the church sustain the work over time.

What you take forward

Leader preparation materials, implementation support, practical revisions, and a rhythm of learning and review that your church can carry forward.

Review & revision

Learn from practice and feed learning back into the pathway.

Leadership training continues throughout the engagement. Reflection and feedback guide changes as the church puts its framework into practice.

Common Questions

Where do we begin?

Leadership assessment and initial training begin alongside organizational and systems assessment. We bring the findings together to establish the priorities for your church’s development pathway.

How is the work shaped for our church?

Your church’s theology, history, people, leadership, and organizational life shape the work. Assessment identifies the strengths to build on, the challenges to address, and the preparation needed to put the framework into practice.

Will we replace our existing programs?

We identify what is serving discipleship well, what needs to be adapted, and where something new is needed. Existing groups, curricula, and ministries become part of a more intentional framework connecting learning, practice, relationships, and everyday life.

Can we build on assessment or planning we have already done?

Yes. We review your existing assessments, strategic plans, and ministry evaluations alongside the church’s current experience. They contribute to our understanding of the church and help focus the next stage of work.

Does leadership training continue after assessment?

Yes. Training begins during assessment and continues through design and implementation. Leaders practice what they are learning in real ministry situations, receive feedback, and develop their capacity to accompany the growth of others.
